A Guide to Visiting World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, Georgia

Dive inside the history Coca-Cola at this popular museum in Downtown Atlanta! Check out this guide to World of Coca-Cola to help plan your visit.

The queue for World of Coca-Cola is not unlike the queues for a ride at Six Flags — it’s long, it’s in the sweltering Georgia heat, they play videos to keep you entertained, and they have multiple check points to make you feel like you’re getting closer to the ride.

Even the name is reminiscent of an amusement park — it’s a whole world of Coca-Cola, like a whole world of Disney. How is it that a simple museum can make itself seem on the same level as an amusement park?

World of Coca-Cola

About World of Coca-Cola

World of Coca-Cola is a museum showcasing the history of the Coca-Cola Company. The original museum was located at Underground Atlanta from 1990-2007 before moving to its current location just a few blocks away from where John Pemberton created the original Coca-Cola formula.

Explore Inside World of Coca-Cola

Before your tour begins, you enter a lobby and receive a bottled Coke to enjoy while you wait for the red doors at the front of the room to open and take you into The Loft.

The Loft

The Loft World of Coca Cola

Inside the Loft are Coke advertisements and promotional products from all around the world, spanning from the brand’s 125 years. Notable artifacts are the first Coke soda dispenser, a Coca-Cola urn, and some groovy Coca-Cola pants from the 70s.

Coca-Cola Theater

The next stop is the Coca-Cola Theater for a short film of memorable moments shared around the world with Coca-Cola.

After the film, you are free to explore the rest of the World of Coca-Cola exhibits at your own pace.

Milestones of Refreshments

Coca Cola Memorabilia

In the Milestones of Refreshments exhibit, you can walk through the entire history of the Coca-Cola Company. You’ll start at its beginning with Dr. John S. Pemberton’s pharmaceutical pursuits and Coke’s introduction to the world at the soda fountains.

You’ll also learn about the Coke contour bottle, with its distinctive shape that can be easily recognized in the dark or lying broken on the ground.

Near the end of the exhibit, you’ll learn about the brand’s sponsorship in global events like the Olympics, and you may even have the opportunity to hold an Olympic Torch.

The Vault of the Secret Formula

Coca-Cola Secret Formula Vault

The Vault is where they store the secret formula for Coca-Cola.

But before you get there, you’ll have to do a little searching through an interactive exhibit on the origins of the secret formula, copycats trying to replicate the formula, how the owners have kept the formula safe, and all the myths and legends of those who claim to know the true formula.

Bottle Works

Coca-Cola Bottling

At the Bottle Works, you’ll be able to watch a slowed-down process of bottling Coke using the same equipment and process as full-sized bottling plants.

Meet the Coca-Cola Polar Bear

My favorite part of the tour is meeting and taking a picture with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear.

The polar bear debuted in a Coca‑Cola print ad in France in 1922 and then appeared in periodical ads for the next 70 years.

The modern polar bear made his debut in the 1993 “Always Coca‑Cola” campaign in a television ad called “Northern Lights” and has appeared in numerous television and print ads since. The polar bear has become one of the most popular symbols of Coca-Cola advertising.

3-D Theater

Go In Search of the Secret Formula in a multi-sensory movie experience at the 3-D Theater. You’ll follow an eccentric scientist as he tries to find the secret ingredient in every bottle of Coke.

Perfect Pauses Theater

In the Perfect Pauses Theater, you can view Coca-Cola advertisements from around the world.

Coca-Cola Art

In the Pop Culture Gallery, you can see how fans made the brand a pop culture icon. The gallery features artwork by famous artists such as Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist, and Elena Zolotnitsky.

Scent Discovery

World of Coca-Cola Art

In the Scent Discovery exhibit, you let your nose guide you through sweet, fruity, and spicy smells. A Coca-Cola Ambassador will lead your group through the discovery to guess the origin of a variety of scents.

You’ll learn about the anatomy of smell, and you’ll determine which aroma profiles and Coca-Cola beverages may be your new favorite.

Taste It!

The last stop of the tour is the Taste It! tasting room, where you can try 100+ Coca-Cola product drinks from around the world. The five world tasting stations are arranged geographically with beverages that are unique to that region.

Off to the side is the Coca-Cola tasting station where you can taste different Coke family brands from Diet Coke to Cherry Coke.

Tasting all the flavors is a challenge, but when you need a break, take a seat in by the window behind the Coca-Cola tasting station. When you exit, pick up a commemorative bottle of Coke on your way to the Coca-Cola gift shop.

Attend Special Events

World of Coca-Cola Event

World of Coca-Cola doesn’t hold a ton of special events, but every once in a while you can catch one, usually when Coca-Cola is promoting a new flavor. For Halloween one year, we got to explore the museum after dark for an adults-only costume event in honor of their new Fanta flavor.

Find a Refreshing Gift at the Coca-Cola Store

If you’re a Coca-Cola fanatic like me, you’ll love the Coca-Cola Store. They sell a ton of merchandise from decorative items to apparel to accessories. They even have one-of-a-kind art pieces, many of which are unique to this store.
