5 Best Restaurants in Chinatown DC

There’s more to Chinatown than just Chinese restaurants (although there are plenty of those!). You have a ton of amazing restaurants in Chinatown DC to choose from.

On one of our trips to Washington DC, we stayed just outside of Chinatown, which meant most of the restaurants we chose ended up being in Chinatown. And there is a ton of variety in the restaurants in this area! Here are some of our favorite Chinatown DC restaurants.

Top Restaurants in Chinatown DC

1. Bulldog Sports Bar

Pizza, Sports Bar

Bulldog is an unassuming sports bar in Chinatown that serves pizza, wings, loaded fries, sliders, and mac & cheese skillets.

It’s got a bit of a hard rock, dive bar vibe. But don’t let that turn you off! There are multiple levels of seating, it’s a great place to drink a beer and watch a game, and the atmosphere inside isn’t so loud that you can’t have a conversation.

I recommend the Carnivore Pizza, the Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings, and their Caesar Salad. Mostly I liked that their garlic parm is wet instead of a dry rub like most other places!

2. Irish Channel Restaurant & Pub

Irish, Pub

Irish Channel Restaurant & Pub is a local restaurant in Penn Quarter/Chinatown that serves authentic Irish food. It’s run by a certified chef from Cork County, Ireland, so you know its good!

This restaurant is on the bottom level of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Washington, DC/Downtown. They’re a great spot for lunch with authentic Irish pub classics, live music, and soccer on the TV.

I recommend the Guinness Stew or the Fish N’ Chips, both classic dishes.

3. Yard House

American, Bar

Yard House is a national high-end sports bar chain with a Chinatown DC location that serves up classic American bar fare (it was also a place I could get a Coke in this land of Pepsi).

They have a daily lunch special where you can get half a sandwich and a cup of soup, and their tomato basil soup is pretty darn good. So if you’re in the mood for American bar food or want a huge selection of beers, Yard House is a good choice.

I recommend the Grilled Cheese & Tomato Bisque or the “Everything-Crusted” Ahi Tuna sandwich.

4. Momiji

Japanese, Sushi

Momiji is a two-level restaurant in Chinatown DC for Japanese food, sushi, and hibachi.

We were intrigued by their Sushi Love Boat, but we decided that was too much food for us and just ordered a few rolls. Their menu has creatively named rolls, handmade cocktails, and delicious hibachi meals.

I recommend the White House Roll, the Rock n’ Roll, or the Sushi Sandwich.

5. Tony Cheng’s

Chinese, Asian

Wow, I’ve written a whole blog post about Chinatown and haven’t even gotten to the Chinese food yet! Tony Cheng’s Mongolian Restaurant is another multi-level Chinatown DC restaurant, and their specialty is classic Chinese dishes.

Downstairs they have a Mongolian barbecue buffet. Upstairs, where we ate, they have classic Chinese fare and dim sum.

I recommend the Mongolian Beef, the General Tso’s Chicken, and Chow Mein.

What is Chinatown?

Chinatown is a historic neighborhood of Downtown Washington DC. The area runs along H and I streets between 5th and 8th streets.

In the 1930s, the area was home to thousands of Chinese immigrants, but they were displaced in the 1980s by the construction of a new convention center.

In Chinatown DC, you’ll find some of Washington DC’s best restaurants, the iconic Friendship Archway, and the Capitol One Arena. And you’re not far from all the best things to see and do in DC.
