6 Free, Budget-Friendly Things to do in Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark is one of the more expensive European cities to travel to, but once you’re there, you can see why this city is worth a visit! If you’re worried about blowing your budget after all you’ve spent on accommodation, transportation, and food in the city, then check out these free things to do in Copenhagen that will make your visit all worth it.

Top Free Things to Do in Copenhagen

1. Discover Copenhagen’s Colorful Streets

Nyhavn is probably Copenhagen’s most famous colorful street, but there is more color to find all throughout the city.

You can also find color on Nybrogade, Sofiegade, Gernersgade, and more like the street pictured above.

2. Explore Freetown Christiania

Freetown Christiania, Copenhagen, Denmark

Freetown Christiania is a hippy neighborhood that has created its own rules. It’s a pretty controversial area, and it’s known for being a place where you can go to buy weed (even though weed is illegal elsewhere in Copenhagen).

It can be a rough area, so tourists are advised to follow the community’s rules, such as no photographs and no talking on cellphones. Other than weed, you can find local art galleries, restaurants, and music in Christiania.

3. Take a Picture With the Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is a bronze sculpture on display on the waterside at the Langelinie promenade.

It is just a small statue, and it’s a popular tourist spot so it may be crowded. If nothing else, it gives you a good excuse for a walk along the harbor.
