Texican Court Review: A Retro Hotel in Irving, Texas

The Texican Court is a boutique hotel that is like stepping back in time to a retro 1950s motor lodge. Check out my review of our stay at the Texican Court in Irving, Texas.

The Texican Court is a comfortable and unique place to rest your head while in Irving, Texas. This hotel opened in 2018 and is located in the Las Colinas entertainment district just across the street from the Irving Convention Center.

The hotel has a unique mix of retro, 1950s style with a bit of Spanish Mission architecture for a quirky Texan experience.

This pet-friendly hotel is set up around beautiful courtyards with fire pits and a pool, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.

Texican Court Review

The Texican Court was the host hotel for the Southern Travelers Explore – Irving conference that I attended, and it proved to be such a great home base for exploring Irving.

Here’s everything you need to know about staying at the Texican Court hotel.

The Guest Room

The hotel has a total of 152 guest rooms and suites: you have your pick of a classic room, a deluxe room, a junior suite, and a presidential suite.

I stayed in a Deluxe Room that overlooked the pool. The rooms are retro-inspired with a giant orange SMEG refrigerator that is stocked completely with beverages (there’s no room for leftovers in this fridge, unfortunately).

There’s a distinct Texan style in the natural wood and distressed leather furnishings, the barn door to the bathroom, and fabrics and colors inspired by traditional Mexican saddle blankets.

The large bathrooms come stocked with luxury bath products to use in the walk-in shower. You’re even provided with a brightly-colored custom robe, which you can purchase if you’d like to take it home with you.

The suites, meanwhile, come with more living space, a dining table, a different view, and a vintage-inspired claw-foot bathtub.

The Amenities

The Texican Court has three distinct courtyards: one with the resort-style pool, one connected to the restaurant and meeting hall, and one bordered by guest rooms.

The circular outdoor swimming pool is at the center of the property and is just outside of many of the guest rooms.

The courtyard connected to the hotel’s restaurant and meeting hall can double as an event space. This courtyard had picnic table seating, a firepit built into the wall, a standalone firepit, and an array of seating options around each one.

The quiet courtyard bordered by guest rooms has a large brick fireplace, lawn games, and even more cozy seating. This courtyard can also be used for events.

You can also rent bicycles from the hotel in order to explore the Las Colinas area more fully.

The Restaurants

The hotel offers a unique dining experience at the Two Mules Cantina where you can enjoy delicious Tex-Mex cuisine and craft cocktails, complete with indoor/outdoor seating. The restaurant is open to hotel guests and the public. On the weekends, they host live musical entertainment.

Meanwhile, the Salt Tequila Bar offers an even more intimate space for sipping delicious cocktails and tequila tastings by the fireplace. This small bar is located off the reception area, just across from the check-in office.

The Little Chapel Ballroom

The Little Chapel Ballroom is the hotel’s 3,000 square foot event space. It can be divided in half with a full partition placed between the two separate rooms.

This small chapel space is influenced by the design of Spanish missions like the Alamo and adds a very Texan experience to your event. The chapel opens up into the courtyard that connects to the Two Mules Cantina.

Benefits of Staying at the Texican Court

The Texican Court has a great location in Las Colinas, a planned community within Irving that has commercial, residential, and recreational facilities. This means you’re close to some of Irving’s best restaurants, it’s entertainment district at the Toyota Music Factory, fun activities like gondola rides on the man-made lake, and intriguing museums like the Mustang Museum.

The hotel has an amazing ambiance, and you can feel worlds away from the city tucked inside its mission-like walls. They way the courtyards are set up leaves you discovering something new around every single corner. Every inch of this hotel has been designed to maximize its cuteness, quirkiness, and uniqueness.
