5 Best Restaurants on the San Antonio River Walk
Dine up against the river while boats putter by at these amazing restaurants on the San Antonio River Walk!
The famous San Antonio River Walk feels like worlds away from the San Antonio city center up on ground level, almost like you’ve been transporter to the canals of Venice. This is one of my favorite parts of visiting San Antonio, and it can completely transform your dining experience!
Whether you’re looking for authentic Tex-Mex or you want a real Texas steakhouse, I’ve got you covered with the restaurants I’ve tried and loved on the San Antonio River Walk.
Best San Antonio River Walk Restaurants
1. Casa Rio
Mexican, Tex-Mex
Casa Rio was the first restaurant to open on the River Walk, and the first restaurant to offer riverside seating. We love a trend-setter!
The restaurant itself is steeped in history, sitting on land first granted title in 1777 by the King of Spain and next to the first bridge built to cross the river.
Casa Rio boasts a menu of San Antonio-style Mexican, and its colorful array of riverside umbrellas makes it one of the most photographed spots on the river.
430 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205
2. Rio Rio Cantina
Mexican, Tex-Mex
The River Walk has plenty of famous Mexican restaurants, and Rio Rio Cantina is one of the originals. And it really lives up to the hype!
This restaurant serves up Tex-Mex recipes and a late breakfast menu to indoor, outdoor, riverside, and balcony seating.
The menu offers Tex-Mex classics and American breakfast favorites, bold street tacos, and a different special every day of the week.
421 E Commerce St, San Antonio, TX 78205
3. Saltgrass Steak House
Steakhouse, American
The award-winning Saltgrass Steak House honors the legendary Salt Grass Trail where longhorn grazed and were considered the best beef in Texas.
Their menu offers mouthwatering steaks, fresh seafood, chicken, and large glasses of sangria filled to the brim.
This was my family’s go-to restaurant for our Christmas dinner for the three years we spent Christmas in San Antonio.
502 River Walk St, San Antonio, TX 78205
4. The County Line
BBQ, Southern
Texas BBQ isn’t like the rest of the South’s BBQ, so this is definitely a must when you’re in Texas.
The County Line serves legendary BBQ of the highest quality, including ribs, brisket, sausage, and chicken. And they serve it in huge portions.
One of the restaurant’s main principles is for its locations to celebrate the heritage of Texas, so it’s no surprise you’ll find this restaurant on the famous San Antonio River Walk.
111 W Crockett St #104, San Antonio, TX 78205
5. Waxy O’Connors
Irish, Pub
Waxy O’Connors has the traditional Irish pub feel right alongside the quaintness of the River Walk.
Their menu offers fresh Irish favorites, craft beers, and craft cocktails.
And true to an Irish pub, Waxy’s is jam-packed with live music and entertainment for a good time all around.
