Where to Eat in Natchez, Mississippi That Locals Love

Natchez may be known for its historic homes, but the food scene deserves just as much attention. On our weekend visit, we ate our way around town and found everything from Southern favorites to some seriously good sweets, all recommended to us by locals.

Just like everything else in Natchez, restaurants here are a little extra (in a good way!). We ate inside an old bank vault, learned how to make biscuits from the Biscuit Queen herself at the city’s oldest building, and stopped for coffee at a quirky downtown roastery that also sells premium cigars.

If you’re wondering where to eat in Natchez, Mississippi, these are the restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and foodie experiences I’d recommend based on what we actually tried.

The Little Easy in Natchez, Mississippi, is a rustic red brick restaurant with a covered porch, outdoor seating, and a brick walkway surrounded by green lawn and mature trees. A large oval sign reading "The Little Easy. Sun Up to Sun Down." hangs beside the entrance beneath a clear blue sky.

Best Places to Eat in Natchez

1. Frankie’s On Main

Southern, American

Frankie’s On Main is a fun dinner spot in Downtown Natchez located inside a historic bank building. We actually got to eat in the old bank vault, which was a unique private dining experience for our group. But the entire restaurant is decorated with funky lounge decor, so wherever you sit is a total vibe.

The menu has Southern American favorites, with a bit of New Orleans flair, across their shareable appetizers, gumbo and salads, burgers and bao buns, plus steaks, lamb, seafood, and other larger entrées. There’s also a full cocktail menu, and the bartenders can get creative if you’re looking for something beyond the listed drinks.

We tried a ton here: the pimento cheese dip, duck bites, pork bao buns, gumbo, and lamb burger, while others in our group ordered the half rack of lamb and the 8-ounce filet. For drinks, we had the Blues Trail along with a couple cocktails the bartender created for us on the spot.

This is one of the best Natchez restaurants for a celebratory night out. If you’re eating with a group, I’d definitely recommend ordering a few appetizers for the table so you can sample more of the menu.

2. The Little Easy

Breakfast, Brunch

The Little Easy is a cozy brunch spot on High Street, close enough to the Natchez Bluff that you can take a morning stroll along the river. They’re open for breakfast, brunch, and lunch.

You’ll find breakfast and brunch favorites on the menu, along with coffee and brunch cocktails. It’s easily one of the best breakfast restaurants in Natchez.

We kept our breakfast pretty classic with the avocado toast and the Easy Breakfast. The avocado toast was the perfect size with just the right amount of toppings. Kevin liked the Easy Breakfast as a sampler of a classic Southern breakfast with eggs, bacon, grits, and biscuits.

3. Natchez Brewing Company

Pizza, Beer

Natchez Brewing Company is a casual brewpub in Downtown Natchez where you can get locally brewed beer and some of the best pizza in town. The taproom is easygoing and perfect for a relaxed dinner after a day of sightseeing.

They specialize in artisan and Detroit-style pizzas, with several crust options, along with classic bar snacks. There’s also a rotating selection of Natchez Brewing Company’s own beers on tap.

We ordered a pizza similar to a Margherita, but made with vodka sauce and basil. And I’m not much of a beer person, so I went with a fruited sour.

If you’re also someone who gets dragged to breweries by the beer drinkers in your life, take a look at the more fruit-forward options on tap — you may find something you actually like.

4. Steampunk Coffee Roasters/Papi y Papi

Coffee

Steampunk Coffee Roasters/Papi y Papi is a quirky spot to grab coffee in Downtown Natchez. The coffee shop roasts its own coffee and has an eclectic, vintage-inspired interior that gives you plenty to look at while you wait for your order.

It isn’t a traditional café with a breakfast or lunch menu; instead, it focuses on coffee and espresso drinks alongside an array of fine chocolates and a curated selection of premium cigars.

It’s also very popular. There isn’t a ton of seating, and during our visit, most people seemed to be grabbing their drinks to-go. I’d plan on Steampunk as a coffee stop while you’re exploring downtown rather than counting on settling in with your laptop for a few hours.

I ordered the matcha latte, which I’d happily get again. So even if coffee isn’t your drink of choice, Steampunk Coffee is still a great option.

5. Butter Cakery

Cakes, Sweets

Butter Cakery is a cute little bakery on Main Street where what you find in the case depends on what they’ve baked that day.

The bakery specializes in cakes and other sweets made from scratch, with flavors that range from classics like chocolate and red velvet to Biscoff cookie butter, lemon, lavender, and seasonal creations.

If there’s something specific you’re hoping to try, I wouldn’t wait until the end of the day to stop by. Locals had recommended the banana pudding to us, but by the time we stopped in that afternoon, it was already sold out.

We ended up getting a Biscoff cupcake instead. I’d recommend seeing what catches your eye in the case when you arrive — and if someone local tells you to get the banana pudding, maybe learn from us and get there earlier.

6. Brunch Class with Chef Regina at King’s Tavern

Southern Cooking Class

For something more interactive than another restaurant meal, book one of Chef Regina Charboneau’s cooking classes at King’s Tavern. The classes take place inside the historic King’s Tavern, and her schedule includes cooking classes and communal dinner experiences with menus that change throughout the year.

We took the Brunch and Biscuit Making Class, where we learned how to make Regina’s famous biscuits (she’s known as the Biscuit Queen around here) along with an entire brunch. We made smoked tomato shrimp and grits in a creamy béchamel and a French omelet stuffed with Boursin cheese and topped with crushed sour cream and onion potato chips.

I’d absolutely recommend the brunch class. You get to learn the recipes and tricks from Chef Regina, try your hand at a few of the techniques, and then sit down to enjoy what you’ve made together. It was a really fun way to experience Southern food in Natchez. Plus, you leave knowing how to make a proper biscuit yourself.

Book your Biscuit and Brunch Making Class here.
