About LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta

A fun-filled LEGO attraction first came to Phipps Plaza in Buckhead in 2012, then called LEGOLAND Discovery Center. The popular kids’ attraction closed in 2022 for a much-needed renovation.

In 2023, the attraction re-opened as LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta. The $5 million refresh added a new DUPLO area, a new spaceship-building station, and a new racing VR experience.

Let’s take a look inside the LEGO Discovery Center at Phipps Plaza!

Minifigure Creator

You begin your adventure to LEGO Discovery Center by creating your own Minifigure to bring with you on your journey.

In the Minifigure Creator area, you’ll choose a torso, head, legs, and hair/hat accessory. You’ll then take pictures of your Minifigure at different interactive zones throughout the Discovery Center.

Kingdom Quest

Once you have your Minifigure, you’ll move on to the Kingdom Quest ride. That’s right, LEGO Discovery Center has a ride! You’ll totally have forgotten by now that you’re in the middle of a mall.

On the Kingdom Quest Ride, you’ll hop aboard a family-sized chariot to go rescue the captured Princess. Each rider gets a laser shooter, and you’ll try to zap the trolls, skeletons, spiders, and bats, that are hold the Princess hostage.

This is a really fun ride that you’ll want to do over and over again to see who in your family can get the highest score!

The Great LEGO Race VR Experience

Another great ride that the Discovery Center has is The Great LEGO Race VR Experience. You’ll race through a virtual LEGO World, steering clear of flying objects as you soar high in the air and fly into lava caves.

Note that this experience is NOT included with your regular admission, but it is included in the upgraded admission or as an add-on. You must be 6 years or older to participate in this experience.

Miniland

Miniland at LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta, Buckhead, Georgia

Miniland is one of my favorite parts of the experience. This miniature creation of Atlanta was created from more than 1.5 million bricks.

The replica recreates Atlanta’s most beloved landmarks, from the capitol building to the Westin Peachtree Plaza to Stone Mountain. There’s Zoo Atlanta complete with panda bears, Truist Park with a Braves game going on, and Mercedes Benz Stadium with a miniature Falcons game.

How many Atlanta landmarks can you find?

DUPLO Park

DUPLO Park is made for younger kids. Youngsters ages 5 and under can visit DUPLO Park and play with the large DUPLO bricks so they can learn to build, too.

In this area, there’s a dinosaur carousel, duck fishing, a construction challenge wheel, and a slide.

Build Adventures

Put your creative skills to the test in the Build Adventures area! This is a fun area for LEGO creators who like to put together racing cars and things with wheels.

Create your own LEGO car and launch it off the many ramps in this area, or race your cars to see who can build the fastest car.

You can race through a pyramid, try to jump your car over an alligator, and race down a volcano that has a loop-de-loop and a jump at the end.

Spaceship Build & Scan

Spaceship Build & Scan area at LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta, Buckhead, Georgia

In the Spaceship Build & Scan area, you get to build your very own LEGO Spaceship and then launch it into cyberspace (a.k.a. a digital video game).

You get to build and customize your spaceship just the way you like it. Then you’ll head to the control center to scan your creation and watch it come to life on the video game screen in front of you. Then you’ll launch and take a journey through space, blasting asteroids and visiting planets.

Pirate Adventure Island

Pirate Adventure Island at LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta, Buckhead, Georgia

Pirate Adventure Island is an adorable soft play area with a LEGO-themed pirate ship. You can have all kinds of swashbuckling fun here!

Climb around the play set on ropes, ladders, and slides. You can raise and lower a flag, send up giant soft LEGO bricks on a conveyor belt, and have all kinds of pirate adventures.

Throughout the year, LEGO Discovery Center Atlanta holds special events celebrating holidays like Halloween and Christmas.

They occasionally have adult-only events as well so that you can visit even without the kiddos. This is how Kevin and I got to go. It’s also why all my pictures have cobwebs and spooky stuff — because it was a Halloween event!
