La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho Review: Tokyo Hotel for Couples

My #1 priority when finding a hotel for our Tokyo trip was location, and La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho checked every box! With three major rail stations just a few minutes’ walk away, it made getting around the city incredibly easy (and stayed well within our budget).

This modern, playful hotel fits right into the energy of Kabukicho’s entertainment district. While the neighborhood is packed with nightlife, La’gent Hotel is just far enough removed that it stays quiet when you’re battling jet lag, but it’s still only steps away from karaoke lounges and late-night izakaya once you’re ready to explore.

We really enjoyed our stay here, and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a well-located, affordable hotel in Tokyo. Here’s my full review of La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho and what you can expect during your stay.

A pink accent wall behind the bed features bold, graphic artwork, while a suitcase and desk chair sit beside the bed, suggesting a traveler’s stay.

La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho Review

La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho opened in 2019 with 96 rooms designed for 1-4 people. The hotel blends traditional Edo style design with modern elements like Manga art.

In the lobby, the hotel has an American-style sports bar where they serve a buffet breakfast, dinner, and drinks.

The Guest Room

La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho has hotel rooms with double beds, queen beds, twin beds ranging from their “moderate” budget-friendly level to luxury level. Each floor of the hotel has a different theme of room decorations, like Moonlit Night, Bonsai, Manga, Red Fuji, and The Great Wave off Kanagawa.

We stayed in a Moderate Queen with the Manga design. As most hotels rooms in Tokyo are, this room was small with very little space to move around. The bed took up the majority of the room, with a small desk and chair next to a mini fridge right next to it.

The challenge with Tokyo hotel rooms is finding space for your luggage, and unfortunately the bed was too low to store our luggage beneath it, so we use the desk and floor for suitcases.

All the hotel rooms come with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom with a bidet toilet and a shower. They provide amenities like shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, ,and hairbrushes, which you can grab at the front desk and bring up to your room. There are even pajamas for you to wear during your stay.

The Restaurant

The hotel’s restaurant CAFÉ & BAR Crospot serves breakfast and dinner.

I recommend getting the breakfast buffet while you’re here. They feature Japanese and Western breakfast foods, so you can try different foods here and there without having to commit fully to a Japanese breakfast (as a non-breakfast person in general, this was key to me. Turns out, I like a Japanese breakfast better).

We didn’t try their dinner (because lets be honest, there are a ton of better restaurants nearby), but they have a menu of more American-style bar food. They did seem to have some interesting drink events, like sake tastings, but we weren’t ever around at the right time to try them.

The Location

The location of La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho was the main selling point for us. We wanted to be close to a major rail station so that we could get around the city easily, and get to our next stop in Kyoto.

This hotel is super close to the Seibu Shinjuku Station, Higashi-Shinjuku Station, and Shinjuku Station. You can easily go anywhere in the city thanks to these three rail stations. And we did end up using each station on this trip.

Kabukicho is also a major nightlife and entertainment district. That wasn’t one of the reasons we chose this area, but it does mean that there are a lot of restaurants around, as well as karaoke lounges and bars if you’re really into nightlife.

Luckily, the hotel is on the fringe of the entertainment streets, so it’s pretty quiet just outside the hotel.

Benefits of Staying at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho

The major benefit of staying at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho, for us, was the location. With three major rail stations just a short walk away, getting around Tokyo was easy and stress-free, especially for a first visit. For the price, it’s hard to beat this level of convenience in such a central area.

The hotel itself is modern, clean, and playful, with design touches that feel very Tokyo. The rooms are small (very Tokyo-standard), but comfortable and well set up with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning, English-speaking staff, and thoughtful extras like pajamas and toiletries. Since we spent most of our time out exploring Tokyo, the room size was never a dealbreaker.

The hotel also has a laundry room, so you can plan to travel light and wash your clothes throughout your trip. Our friends used the laundry room and it worked well for them.

Being on the edge of Kabukicho ended up being the best of both worlds. We were steps from restaurants and nightlife, but the hotel stayed surprisingly quiet at night.

What I didn’t love

While we enjoyed our stay at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho, there are a few potential drawbacks I wanted to mention.

The bed wasn’t the most comfortable, and they had some of the flattest pillows.

This was by far the smallest hotel room we had on our Japan trip (we stayed in 4 hotels overall). I was well-prepared for small hotel rooms, and I’ve stayed in a lot of small rooms in Europe, so I wasn’t caught completely off-guard, but I was expecting to be able to store a suitcase under the bed, but we couldn’t fit anything under there.

Good To Know

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Air conditioned
  • English-speaking staff
  • Fully non-smoking
  • No pets

My Experience at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho!

The hotel was comfortable and definitely one of the most modern and updated we were finding for this price range. We spent very little time in the room, so the size of the room wasn’t much of an inconvenience.

I loved being so close to the rail stations, the area was easily walkable, and we found some great restaurants just around the corner.

Who Should Stay at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho

La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho is great for couples and solo-travelers. We stayed here with a group of two couples and two single people, so it was an easy split into three rooms within everyone’s budget.

If it’s your first visit to Tokyo and you need a hotel with a great location near the major rail stations, this is definitely my top choice. It makes it so easy to get around for your first trip to Tokyo.

La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho FAQ

Is it safe to stay in Shinjuku Kabukicho?

Yes, it’s safe to stay in Shinjuku Kabukicho. Kabukicho is (I guess, technically) Tokyo’s “red light district”, but not in the same way as Amsterdam’s. Kabukicho is more like an entertainment district with Las Vegas neon vibes.

The people you see on the street are generally advertising tamer places like maid cafes and host/hostess clubs where you pay for the privilege of talking to attractive men and women. Anything more X-rated is going to be behind closed doors.

The biggest nuisance are the touts (usually not Japanese) who may approach you and hassle you to buy whatever service their hawking. A firm no and walking away should be all it takes to get them off your back. It’s not a particularly dangerous or seedy destinations, it’s no different than most other metropolitan nightlife districts.

Is it possible to leave luggage before checking in / after checking out?

Yes, you can leave your luggage at La’gent Hotel Shinjuku Kabukicho. They’ll keep it behind the front desk until you check in or until you pick it up after check out. There’s no fee. This came in super handy for us on the day we checked out as we weren’t leaving the city until the afternoon.

How quiet are the rooms at La’gent Hotel?

The rooms are quiet and peaceful, despite being near the lively Kabukicho area. The only outside noises we heard from our room were emergency vehicle sirens.
