Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake Review: Unique Lake Stays

Starlight Haven is a peaceful nature retreat right on the shores of Weiss Lake in Cedar Bluff, Alabama.

We got to spend a few nights in their luxury geodesic dome, so I have all the details on this unique North Alabama getaway! Learn all about our stay in my Starlight Haven review.

Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake Review

Starlight Haven is a beautiful nature resort located on over 1,500 feet of shoreline along Weiss Lake in Cedar Bluff, Alabama.

It offers a serene escape for couples, families, and small groups in their geodesic domes, glamping tents, safari tents, A-frame cabins, and modern cabins. There are 15 units in total.

These unique stays are perfect for glamping in luxury if you’re like me and like the great outdoors but aren’t really a camper! Each unit has eco-friendly and modern amenities so you can feel right at home while being out in nature.

Different Types of Accommodation

There are 15 geodesic domes, glamping tents, safari tents, A-frame cabins, and modern cabins at Starlight Haven. Some are located closer to the water than others, but each has a lake view.

Here’s what you can expect from each type of accommodation:

• Deluxe Geodesic Dome (sleeps 4) — The domes have a wide open bay window and a skylight for tons of natural light and lake views. They have a queen bed, two twin beds in a loft, a kitchenette with a table, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The deck has a private hot tub, plenty of outdoor seating, and a grill.
• A-Frame Cabin (sleeps 2) — The A-frames have a large window for the perfect lake view. They have a queen bed in the loft, a loveseat, a kitchenette with bar seating, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The deck has a smaller private hot tub, a grill, and a couple outdoor seating options.
• Premier Glamping Tent Suite (sleeps 2) — The premier suite has a queen bed, a sitting area, a kitchenette with a small table, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The patio has a private hot tub, a grill, and a couple chairs.
• Luxury Safari Tent Suite (sleeps 2) — The luxury suite has a queen bed, a kitchenette with a small table, and a private bathroom with a soaking tub. The deck has a private hot tub, a grill, and a couple chairs.
• Modern Cabin (sleeps 4) — The cabin has a king bed, a loft with two twin beds, a kitchenette with a table, a sitting area, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The deck has a private hot tub, plenty of seating, and a grill.

All units have heating and air conditioning, plus an extra fan and a space heater. They each come with free Wi-Fi and a TV as well.

The bathrooms are all stocked with organic and natural products, so you can feel good about preserving the environment as you stay in luxury in nature.

Geodesic Dome

We stayed in their Hank Aaron Deluxe Geodesic Dome. This dome had the perfect view of Weiss Lake and plenty of privacy from the other units.

The queen bed was extremely comfortable, and it was nice to just lay in bed and look out the bay window at the lake.

The kitchenette was perfectly stocked with all the dishes and silverware we needed. The fridge was plenty big for storing our wines and leftovers from local restaurants. We really appreciated that Starlight Haven provided tea, sugar, and cream; we were able to enjoy a morning cup of tea out on the deck with beautiful lake views.

The hot tub was so relaxing, and it was nice to sit out there with a glass of wine, gazing up at the stars. The patio furniture was very comfortable, and we enjoyed the swinging egg chair.

The Property

Starlight Haven sits on 48 acres of land, with 1,500 feet of shoreline along Weiss Lake.

The property has communal fire pits and a communal dock for all visitors to use. At the dock, you’ll find kayaks available along with life jackets and a handy kayak launch station attached to the side of the dock.

The nature resort is very secluded, so you don’t have to worry about noisy neighbors. It is a bit of a bumpy ride over the unpaved drive to the glamping units, so I would recommend bringing along a taller vehicle if you have one (a car will do just fine as well, it’s just a little easier in a Jeep or a truck).

Benefits of Staying at Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake

Starlight Haven is such a unique getaway on Weiss Lake! You’re not going to find another stay quite like this in North Alabama.

These rentals are private and secluded, perfect for that romantic getaway. Everything about the setting lends itself to romance, from the lake views to the private hot tubs.

You’ll have everything you need for a comfortable stay: plush mattresses, luxury linens, upscale furniture, a kitchenette, a private hot tub, a gas grill, and a private deck. You’ll be comfortably within nature without having to sacrifice modern amenities. This is the perfect place to unplug!

Plus, this part of North Alabama is beautiful, and you’re only about 30 minutes away from the Little River Canyon National Preserve, Fort Payne, and Centre.

What I didn’t love

While we enjoyed our stay at Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake, there are a few potential drawbacks I wanted to mention.

We stayed in the geodome, so the temperature was a little difficult to keep regulated. During the day, the sunlight warmed the dome immensely, and it was hard to keep it cool. Up in the loft, the heat was pretty unbearable. Then during the cold nights, the temperature inside dropped and it was hard to keep it warm.

Luckily, they provide a small fan in the loft and a space heater that works pretty well. Plus, they have additional blankets.

If you’re like me and are sensitive to light, buckle up because the geodome is bright! The walls are all white, and the sunlight streams in through the bay window and skylight. The sun rises over the lake, so you’re woken up early in the morning by the sunrise (which is a plus for some people, but I like darkness).

Be sure to pack a sleep mask. I also just wore sunglasses inside the whole time.

My Experience at Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake!

I loved how peaceful and quiet it was out on the lake. It was nice to just lay in bed and look out the huge bay window at people puttering by in boats. The views here are really unmatched!

Everything inside the geodome was so comfortable: the bed was soft, the towels were big and plush, the bath products smelled great, and everything we needed in the kitchen was provided to us. Even the chairs on the deck were super comfortable, and the hot tub was so relaxing.

I also love this part of North Alabama. The location is perfect for being immersed in nature!

Who Should Stay at Starlight Haven?

Starlight Haven is perfect for couples and small groups or families. Most of their rental options are cozy accommodations that sleep 2 people — only the Geodesic Dome and the Modern Cabin sleep up to 4 people.

These stays are set up for romance. You have a private hot tub overlooking the lake and small, cozy accommodations that encourage you to snuggle up together.

Starlight Haven is also a great place for nature enthusiasts. You’re right on the lake and have access to kayaks. Nearby, you can go hiking, explore waterfalls, and see North Alabama’s beautiful Little River Canyon.

If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway, then you’ll definitely like staying at Starlight Haven at Weiss Lake.
