106 Jefferson Review
The 106 Jefferson Huntsville is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton. One of the hallmarks of the Curio Collection is highlighting one-of-a-kind hotels with individual stories; this usually means the hotel reflects the history and essence of a destination.
The 106 Jefferson is special because it sits on the site of the former Huntsville Hotel, a historic Victorian-era inn that was an elegant and inviting stop-off when Huntsville was a booming cotton town.
In addition to its historic location, the 106 Jefferson also highlights Huntsville’s space history throughout its design, from the conference room carpeting that looks like circuits to the rooftop bar named for the famous monkey astronauts.
There’s no doubt that the 106 Jefferson is the best place to stay in Huntsville!
The Guest Room
The 106 Jefferson Huntsville has 115 guest rooms, with 12 being luxurious suites. You have your choice of a Standard King Room, a Standard Double Queen Room, a King Corner Suite, a One-Bedroom King Suite, or a Heritage & Reserve Suite.
I stayed in a Standard King Room with a comfortable king-sized Serta Suite Dreams mattress. The 410 square-foot room came with a dresser, a desk, a flat screen TV, a lighted closet, a small curved sofa, a mini fridge, and a coffee maker.
The bathroom was spacious with a long vanity, a roomy walk-in shower with Gilchrist & Soames bath products, and a neat motion sensor activated light under the mirror so you don’t have to turn on the light in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
My view wasn’t anything special. I was on the second floor looking out over the entrance, but I imagine you could have nicer views on a higher floor.
The Amenities
The 106 Jefferson has a fitness center with plenty of equipment. They even provide a few snack bars and pieces of fruit for you, as well as refreshing wet clothes for a post-workout cool down.
Attached to the fitness center is a small outdoor sundeck. It’s just a little second-level courtyard in the middle of the roof that they’ve made look nice by covering the roof in Astro-turf.
There is a business center in the hotel lobby, conference rooms on the lobby level, and two on-site restaurants.
The Restaurants
There are two on-site restaurants and bars at the 106 Jefferson.
Revivalist Restaurant & Bar on the bottom floor just off the lobby is an homage to the historic Huntsville tavern that accompanied the Huntsville Hotel at this location. Their dishes are inspired by European classics and American regionalism, and they serve everything with Southern Charm. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Baker & Able Rooftop Bar is on the top floor with both indoor and outdoor seating. The bar is dedicated to the famous monkey astronauts who were the first living creatures to successfully return from space. This rooftop bar is the best in Huntsville, and they serve inventive cocktails and small plates alongside some of the best views of the city.

The hotel has a great location just steps off the Square. Nearby are some of Huntsville’s best restaurants and best bars. It’s really easy to have a night out and then head back to your hotel.
Big Spring Park, the Huntsville Museum of Art, the historic Weedon House, the antebellum homes of the Twickenham Historic District, and the Von Braun Civic Center are all just minutes away.
Many other of Huntsville’s historic sites and space history attractions are just a short drive away, as well.

What I didn’t love
While I had a great stay at 106 Jefferson, there were a few drawbacks I wanted to mention.
My constant battle with the amount of light in hotel rooms a night is always at the forefront of my reviews. At the 106 Jefferson, the blackout curtains worked well, but my only issue was the ceiling was so tall that it was difficult to pull the curtains shut, which is an issue I just recently had at The Lodge at Gulf State Park as well.
But even once I got the curtains closed, there was still a good bit of light coming from the electronics throughout the room and from underneath the door. So I had to break out my eye mask at this hotel in order to sleep.
I also found the hotel to be rather noisy. If someone was talking in the hallway, I could hear every word as if they were in my room. I also had a connecting room, so I could hear everything next door too. And since my room faced the street, I could head every loud car that went by, and even sometimes people talking on the street. It certainly seems like they could have used some thicker material when building the walls, windows, and doors.
Good to Know
- The entire hotel is non-smoking
- Wi-Fi is complimentary in your room and throughout the property
- The hotel offers valet parking only
My Experience at the 106 Jefferson Huntsville
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the 106 Jefferson Huntsville!
I liked how comfortable the room was and the little touches from the motion activated light in the bathroom to the coat hook by the door. I also really liked how convenient the location was to all the Downtown Huntsville attractions. I could easily walk to get lunch and supper, go looking for Huntsville’s famous murals, and explore the Twickenham District.
Who Should Stay at 106 Jefferson
The 106 Jefferson is perfect for those looking for a luxury stay in Huntsville. It’s good for couples, solo travelers, families, and business travelers.
It seems to be a popular spot for wedding parties. My own friend recommended her out-of-town family stay there for her wedding a couple years ago. While I was staying there, there was a wedding party renting out a lot of rooms.
The location makes the 106 Jefferson a really good place to stay for anyone!
