So it’s really no surprise that they also make expanding packing cubes that are also great space-savers. In this review, I’ll tell you why you’ll love the Knack expandable packing cubes.

Knack Expandable Packing Cubes Review
Knack has 3 sizes of their packing cubes: a Medium, a Large, and an extra-large Insert designed to fit the entire interior of their backpacks and duffels.
Most people will probably only need the Medium packing cubes, and maybe a Large one. You can get a nice bundle that comes with two Mediums and one Large.
All the packing cubes are expandable, compressible, and made with a lightweight, durable fabric with see-through mesh panels.
Knack Packing Cube Features
Expansion / Compression
Each packing cube has a zipper expansion / compression feature that changes the size of the cube.
When it is unzipped, the cube is expanded so you can easily pack everything you need. When it is fully zipped, the cube compresses 60%-67% (depending on which size you buy) to save you a ton of space when packing.
The Medium cube is great for packing your toiletries, electronic cords, and accessories or a short trip’s worth of socks, underwear, and t-shirts.
The Large cube can fit a little bit more, like a few day’s worth of shirts or an entire outfit ready to go.
The Insert is great for pants, shirts, socks, underwear, and t-shirts. You can basically pack everything in the insert, take it out at your hotel and put it in a drawer, and then have your backpack free to be a daypack.
Durable design
All the Knack packing cubes are made with a lightweight, durable fabric with see-through mesh panels.
The fabric is a strong 70 denier ripstop nylon fabric, so you don’t have to worry about wear-and-tear with a lot of use.
The see-through monofilament mesh panel on the top makes it easy to identify what you’ve packed. The mesh also makes these packing cubes breathable, so you don’t have to worry about moisture gunking up your clothes and making your luggage smelly.
The cubes come with sturdy nylon webbing handles for easy carrying. The zippers are YKK reverse coil zippers, and the zipper pulls are easy grip cord pullers.
These packing cubes are designed to last through all your frequent travels.

Cons of Knack Packing Cubes
- There’s not much size difference between the Medium and Large (just a couple inches on the short side), so if you wanted a larger cube, you’d have to go all the way up to the Insert size, which is a lot bigger than the Large
- You only have one color to choose from (light gray), so there’s not a lot of personality
- They are pricy compared to other packing cubes, but they are also more durable.
My Experience Using Expandable Packing Cubes
I got my packing cubes as part of the Compressible Shoe Bag & Cubes Travel Set. This comes with 1 Medium Packing Cube, 1 Large Packing Cube, and 1 Compressible Shoe Bag.
I was able to fit 4 t-shirts in the Medium packing cube and still compress it down. I think this size is really best for toiletries, socks, underwear, electronics, or accessories. It does much better with smaller items.
I was able to fit 7 t-shirts in the Large packing cube. This size is definitely better for packing clothes. It’s not significantly larger, but the extra space makes it easier to pack clothing items that aren’t all going to fold up in the same shape. It would be good for packing a full outfit in.
They’re designed to fit inside Knack Packs, so I tried it out in my Series 2 Medium Expandable Knack Pack. When compressed with my t-shirts inside, they are about as tall as the expanded backpack space. There is still a little room to pack a thin layer of clothes on top. Both the packing cubes plus the shoe bag took up the entire expandable part of the backpack.
They also fit great in regular luggage, too. I tried them out in my carry-on luggage, and both packing cubes plus the shoe bag took up less than half the space. Whichever way I packed them, I would still have plenty of space on the top and on the sides for more stuff.
Oh, and if you’re wondering about the compressible shoe bag, I won’t go into a full review but here are my thoughts: They save a little bit of space, but the compression feature is a lot harder to do for the shoe bag than it is with the packing cubes. And it squishes your shoes, so definitely don’t use them with nice shoes. Mostly, I like that the shoe bags keep your dirty shoes off your nice clean clothes.
