Luxor Hotel Las Vegas Review
The Luxor Hotel & Casino is part of the MGM Collection. This pyramid-shaped hotel is located on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip.
The hotel was built in 1992 with an ancient Egyptian theme. The 30-story-tall pyramid makes the resort the third tallest pyramid in the world, and its atrium is the world’s largest by volume.
The Egyptian theme is prevalent throughout the hotel, from the 106-foot-tall recreation of the Great Sphinx of Giza at the front of the pyramid to the interior recreation of an ancient Egyptian city.
When the hotel first opened, it had a man-made lake with a fountain show, an indoor Nile River tour, and a King Tut’s Tomb and Museum, but all of these attractions have since been removed. Currently, there are a Discovering King Tut’s Tomb exhibit, the Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, and Bodies: The Exhibition on display.
The Guest Room
The iconic Luxor Hotel has 4,397 guest rooms in its pyramid and two towers. You have your choice of pyramid or tower rooms with a king bed or with two queen beds, and both pyramid and towers have suites.
The rooms in the pyramid are smaller, and they have a bit of awkwardness with the slanted window. The tower rooms cost a little bit more, but they’re bigger and are generally considered nicer. The rooms were most recently renovated in 2021, so even though the hotel is one of the older ones on the Strip, the rooms don’t look it.
We stayed in a Tower Premier King room. We had a high floor with a nice view of the pool, the back of the pyramid, and Allegiant Stadium.
The 449 square foot room had plenty of space. We had a king sized bed, two chairs, a desk/dresser space, and a flat screen TV.
The bathroom was surprisingly spacious with a walk-in shower and a detached tub. The bathroom was the only place where I felt like it could have used either an upgrade or some extra cleanliness; the water seemed like it was hard on the appliances, and it left the gold finishes looking old and worn.
The decor was simple with a subtle touch of desert so you don’t forget you’re in the pyramid hotel. I do appreciate a consistent theme.
Our room did not have a mini fridge, microwave, or coffee maker. This is pretty standard, but disappointing, for most Las Vegas hotels.
The Amenities
The Luxor has a 125,650 square-foot pool deck, one of the largest in Las Vegas, with four large pools and hot tubs. They have complimentary towels, plenty of lounge chairs, cabanas and daybeds you can rent, and poolside beverage services. There is also a bar and a gift shop.
The fitness center is located within the Nurture Spa and overlooks the pool. They have 16 different machines and exercise equipment.
The Nurture Spa & Salon at Luxor is a nice little oasis with a dry sauna, eucalyptus steam room, Jacuzzis, relaxation lounge, massage services, facial services, and professional hair, nail, and makeup services. There is a charge for each service, as well as to use the spa amenities; hotel guests get a cheaper rate on a spa day pass if you’re just interested in the saunas.
I had a hot stone and aromatherapy massage at the Nurture Spa, and it was good. I went on a weekday, so the price was a little cheaper, and I thought the price was decent for how expensive Vegas usually is.
Entertainment and Exhibitions
One thing Vegas loves is a good show, and the Luxor has a few options, though certainly not as many as some other hotels.
You can see Carrot Top, the Blue Man Group, and FANTASY: The Strip’s Sexiest Tease at the Luxor.
They also have some interesting exhibits going on. You can check out Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition; Bodies: The Exhibition; and Discovering King Tut’s Tomb. I think its interesting that they have so many museum-like exhibitions. I did the Titanic one, and it was really informative, but it’s just such a tone shift from the party atmosphere of the Strip.
There are also a couple other attractions on site, like PLAY Playground that’s an adult playground with oversized games, and Particle Ink: House of Shattered Prisms that’s a 360-degree immersive experience that lets you choose-your-own-adventure.
The Restaurants and Bars
There’s a good mix of dining at the Luxor, with some of the best places to eat in Las Vegas. They have a food court with fast food, some fast-casual spots, a few well-priced casual restaurants, and an upscale steakhouse.
Here’s where you can dine at the Luxor:
- Diablo’s Cantina
- Public House
- TENDER steakhouse + lounge
- Backstage Deli
- The Buffet at Luxor
- Pyramid Cafe
- Starbucks Cafe
- Blizz
- Luxor Food Court
There are also three bars on the casino level: the Central central bar, the Aurora with Aurora Borealis lighting effects on the ceiling, and Flight.
The Casino
The Luxor Las Vegas has a 120,000 square-foot casino with more than 1,100 slot machines, 62 table games, a poker room, race and sports books, a high-end gaming pit, and an esports facility.

Benefits of Staying at the Luxor
The Luxor is a great budget-friendly place to stay in Las Vegas.
The hotel is an icon and an attraction in itself. Plus, the location gives you easy access to other properties with their own fun attractions and restaurants. There is a tram that gives you access to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, as well as indoor walkways connecting the hotels.
With the pool, spa, casino, and on-site restaurants, bars, and entertainment, you have everything you need to keep you entertained right here.
I enjoyed our tower room. One of my favorite parts was that the black-out curtains actually worked, and I didn’t have to use my eye mask to sleep! (This is always very important to my reviews.) Our room was also nice and quiet, and we didn’t hear any noise from the hallway or our neighbors.

What I didn’t love
While I had a great stay at the Luxor, there were a few drawbacks I wanted to mention.
The layout of the hotel, though not the worst of the Vegas casinos, can be a little confusing. It’s seemingly straight-forward, since the building is essentially just a square, but to get to the tower rooms is a bit of a trek.
The hotel is one of the older ones, so there are some signs of wear and tear. The rooms also didn’t have a mini fridge, microwave, or coffee maker, which is pretty common in Las Vegas hotels.
Good To Know
- Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in all rooms
- All rooms are non-smoking; smoking is only permitted on the casino floor, at stand-alone bars, and at designated smoking areas
- Dog-friendly rooms are available
- There is valet parking and self-parking for an additional fee. Your 24-hour parking fee provides you with access to all MGM Resorts in Las Vegas for that time period.

My Experience at the Luxor Hotel & Casino
Overall, I had a wonderful stay at the Luxor Hotel & Casino!
I was happy with the budget-friendly price for the hotel, and I thought our tower room was a really good value for Vegas. Plus, the black-out curtains actually worked! And there was plenty to do without leaving the hotel, good places to eat on-site, and the tram system and connected walkways made it easy to explore other properties nearby.
Who Should Stay at the Luxor
The Luxor is perfect for those looking for a budget-friendly stay in Las Vegas.
The hotel is ideal for couples, solo travelers, and small families. The pyramid rooms are compact and cozy, while the tower rooms provide a little more space.
There is plenty to do at the Luxor and nice amenities with a luxury feel without the luxury price tag. There’s easy access to local attractions and entertainment, both inside this hotel and at other properties.
The Luxor is a great base for a trip to Las Vegas.
