What is BODIES The Exhibition?

BODIES The Exhibition is an exhibit by E/M Group that displays 13 real human bodies and more than 260 organs and partial body specimens to allow an intimate view into the human anatomy.

The bodies are preserved using the Polymer Preservation Process, which keeps the specimens from decaying. Many of the bodies are displayed out in the open without a glass case protecting them (of course, you should not touch the bodies).

As you walk through the exhibit, you’ll learn more about the human body and the fascinating way our bodies work.

My BODIES The Exhibition Review

I did BODIES The Exhibition when it was in Atlanta. When I visited, we weren’t allowed to take pictures, so sorry for my lack of images! You are allowed to take pictures now.

The exhibition is a journey into the human body using real bodies that have been meticulously preserved.

Each room is set up to highlight a different system of the body. So you have a room for the cardiovascular system, a room for the digestive system, a room about reproduction, a room all about the muscles, and more.

The displays all have different and interesting dissections of the bodies, which highlight the different body systems. There are completely cleaned bones of the skeleton, open organs, a delicately separated circulatory system. There are so many different cuts and dissections that allow you to see the body in ways you wouldn’t even be able to see in a cadaver lab.

There are displays that tell you what you’re looking at, plus there is an additional audio guide that is extremely helpful for appreciating the displays.

All the displays are well labeled with the different parts of the organs, they tell you what each body part does and why it’s important. There’s really a ton of information!

Because the specimens are bodies of real humans that have died from natural causes, the exhibit is able to explore a wide variety of medical issues, such as arthritis and lung cancer as well as things like medical implants.

BODIES The Exhibition FAQ

What is the controversy with the Bodies exhibit?

Human rights advocates raised concerns that the bodies exhibited are those of executed Chinese prisoners, and that the families of the victims have not consented to their display. BODIES The Exhibition states that their bodies are unclaimed cadavers from China. They assert that none come from criminal institutions or homes from the mentally insane. But it’s important to remember that their documentation comes from a country with a problematic human rights record and therefore it may be inaccurate.

What’s the difference between BODIES The Exhibition and Real Bodies?

BODIES The Exhibition is displayed at the Luxor in Las Vegas, meanwhile Real Bodies is displayed at the Horseshoe. Real Bodies has 20 bodies and looks at cultural and emotional aspects of the body in addition to anatomical.

Why did the Bodies exhibit in Atlanta close?

The Bodies exhibit in Atlanta closed because it is a touring exhibit. You can find the exhibit touring all over the world.
