Things to Do on a Rainy Day in Fernandina Beach
1. Have Retro Fun at the Fernandina Beach Pinball Museum
One of the best things to do on a rainy day on Amelia Island is the Fernandina Beach Pinball Museum. They have all kinds of retro pinball games for you to play. You can play pinball for $10 for an hour or $14 for all day, and children under 12 are $12.
If you’re interested in the history of the pinball machines, the owner will even give you a history lesson! It’s very easy to lose track of time in this museum, which means it’s a great way to pass a rainy day.
2. Learn History at the Amelia Island Museum of History
On your next rainy day visit, head to the old Nassau County Jail to visit the Amelia Island Museum of History. Learn about the unique history of Amelia Island from the Timucua Native American tribe to Spanish and French explorers, and from pirates to Victorian-era residents.
Admission to this museum costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military, and $5 for children ages 5-17.
3. Dive Deep at the Marine Welcome Center and Shrimping Museum
At the Marine Welcome Center and Shrimping Museum, you’ll learn why Fernandina Beach is known as the birthplace of the modern shrimping industry.
This small museum contains artifacts, photos, and a video tracing the history of shrimping in Fernandina Beach and teaching you about net making, ship building, and more. The best part is, the museum is completely free to visit!
4. Learn African-American History at the A.L. Lewis Museum
Experience the history of American Beach, an African American resort community established in 1935, at the A.L. Lewis Museum (formerly called the American Beach Museum). You’ll learn all about MaVynee Oshun Betsch, “The Beach Lady,” great-granddaughter of American Beach founder A. L. Lewis; the history of the area during the Civil War and black beach communities in the Jim Crow era; and see personal artifacts from community residents.
Admission to the A.L. Lewis Museum costs $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military, and $5 for kids and students.
5. Try to Escape from Amelia Island Escape Rooms
Can you escaped from Greybeard’s pirate ship? How about the library of secrets? A few hours at Amelia Island Escape Rooms is the perfect way to escape a rainy day.
Choose from rooms that will have you stealing pirate treasure, proving conspiracies, solving the mystery of a missing girl, and facing your fear of the dark.
6. Check out the Bars and Restaurants
Fernandina Beach is full of irresistible restaurants and lively bars where you can dodge the rain for a few hours.
Get an amazing meal at restaurants like Ciao Italian Bistro in Downtown or The Sandbar & Kitchen on the beach. Or sip a glass of wine from The Decantery, a cocktail from The Principal’s Office Bar, or a craft brew from Mocama Beer Company while you wait for the rain to go away.
7. Go Shopping on Centre Street
In Downtown Fernandina Beach, you’ll find tons of shops along Centre Street where you can spend your rainy day. You can do some damage shopping for everything from souvenirs to artwork.
There’s an eclectic mix of stores to choose from. If you want to get some Christmas shopping done, head to Christmas Shop on the River. If you’re looking for antiques, check out the Eight Flags Antique Market or Trailer Park Collectables. If you want all things lavender, check out Pelindaba Lavender. And if you want gifts and sweets, head to the Cinnamon Bear Country Store.
8. Go Shooting at Second Amendment Guns & Range
Just over the bridge in Yulee, Second Amendment Guns & Range has a small shooting range where you can test your firearm skills. You can rent pistols and rifles or bring your own.
They also offer classes and courses for all levels of shooters. Learn the basics of gun safety and shooting in the Basic Pistol Course, gain the knowledge and training certificate for concealed carry in the Concealed Carry Weapon Training Course, or sit down with a seasoned instructor with a One-On-One Training.
