The Walters Barn Outdoor Wedding

The Walters Barn in Lula, Georgia is the perfect place for a rustic Southern wedding. We recently got to celebrate my cousin’s wedding here, and we had an amazing time!

This is the third and final wedding we’ve attended this year, and I’ve just loved seeing all the beautiful places couples choose for their big day. So far, we’ve had our friends’ wedding at the Tennessee Aquarium and our own wedding in Kennesaw.

And for my cousin, we headed up north to the mountains for her wedding in Lula, which is only about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Atlanta.

Bridesmaids Luncheon at Swan Coach House

Swan Coach House

Before we get right to the wedding, we have to start with some of the festivities leading up to the ceremony. One such festivity was the bridesmaids luncheon at the Swan Coach House in Atlanta.

Celebrating at the Swan Coach House is one of those classic, and classy, traditions that a lot of Atlanta brides love.

This iconic restaurant used to house the carriages for the Swan House mansion. The women of The Forward Arts Foundation renovated the carriage house into a restaurant, wedding venue, gift shop, and art gallery in 1967.

Swan Coach House, Swan's Favorite

Now, they have a full menu, but I’ve only ever heard of people ordering their signature plate, The Swan’s Favorite, which is what we had at the luncheon. This dish comes with two scoops of chicken salad inside heart-shaped cones, salad, a slice of frozen fruit salad, and their famous cheese straws.

Swan's Silk Pie, Swan-Shaped Dessert

To drink, they have a variety of classic brunch cocktails or their non-alcoholic Swan House Punch. And for dessert, the Swan’s Silk Pie is the favorite: chocolate mousse topped with meringue, whipped cream, and almonds, with a shape that resembles a swan.

Wedding at The Walters Barn in Lula

The Walters Barn in Lula, Georgia

The  couple had their rehearsal dinner at The Walters Barn as well as their wedding ceremony and reception, so we got to see the venue the day before the wedding.

To get to the venue, you take a long drive past fields of donkeys and cows and through a copse of trees. The barn is set way back on the 600 acres of land, perched above a quaint pond.

On the day of the wedding, a rustic arch covered with flowers was set up in front of the pond for a very picturesque back drop for the ceremony.

The Walters Barn Wedding Reception

The reception was held inside the barn underneath large glittering wooden chandeliers.

After all the eating, drinking, and dancing, we sent the newlyweds off with a shower of bubbles.

Where to Stay for a Wedding in Lula, Georgia

Since Lula is right on the edge of the North Georgia Mountains, a cabin would be a great place to stay before the wedding. Helen, Georgia is only about 35 minutes away from Lula and has tons of great cabin rentals.

And if you need something to do before the wedding, you can take a tour of North Georgia wineries!

If hotels are more your style, the closest hotels are in Gainesville. These hotels are only about 15-20 minutes away from Lula.
