Mamak is one of the best restaurants on Buford Highway in Doraville that offers a taste of true Malaysian cooking. This small, cozy café is inspired by Malaysian street food stalls. Mamak has a vegan concept down the road in Chamblee for those looking for non-meat options.
The menu at Mamak features Malaysian curries, noodles, and roti canai made with layered flavors from Chinese, Indian, and Malay roots. You’ll find the menu full of delicious dishes like pork porridge, lemongrass chicken, and curry braised beef brisket.
2. Sweet Hut Bakery & Café
Sweet Hut Bakery & Café is a popular Buford Highway bakery with contemporary décor and a menu of Asian-style breads, pastries, cakes, sandwiches, and teas. It’s become so popular that they have expanded with locations in Duluth, Midtown, Marietta, and Lenox Mall.
You’ll find an array of sweet dessert buns and breads, savory buns perfect for lunch, fresh-baked toasts, cookies, donuts, swiss rolls, and more. Popular menu items include their Chocolate Ganache Cheesecake and Taiwanese bubble teas.
3. White Windmill Bakery and Cafe
White Windmill Bakery and Cafe on Buford Highway is similar to Sweet Hut. A Korean café, White Windmill specializes in serving coffee, light fare, and sweet treats like frozen yogurt.
This shop is packed with delicious pastries, rolls, sandwiches, espresso-based drinks, and a variety of teas. Try the red bean donut with a bubble tea to wash it down.
4. LanZhou Ramen
LanZhou Ramen specializes in LanZhou noodles, a type of hand-pulled noodle that shares its name with the city in China where it originated. The restaurant owner Fu Li Zhang has been making LanZhou noodles for decades, in China, New York, and now Atlanta.
Their menu features these one-of-a-kind noodles and dim sum. You can watch the noodle-making process while trying a bowl of the hand-pulled and knife-sliced noodles either as a soup or as a stir fry.
5. Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks
Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks offers some of the best cheesesteaks in Atlanta. They have two locations: one in Doraville and the other restaurant in Downtown Atlanta. You can even book their classic food truck for your event.
On the menu, you’ll find plenty of meaty cheesesteaks. Try Big Dave’s modern take on the classic cheesesteak with the “Dave’s Way” Cheesesteak, which comes with beef or salmon stuffed with three types of cheese, sweet peppers, banana peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Other popular menu items include the beef, chicken, and salmon cheesesteak egg rolls.
6. Shoya Izakaya
Shoya Izakaya is one of the best Japanese restaurants in Doraville. “Izakaya” is a type of informal Japanese bar that serves alcoholic beverages and snacks, so at Shoya Izakaya, you can expect an extensive drink menu of sake and shochu and tapas-style dishes.
Choose from a menu of sushi, seafood, noodle, kushiyaki, meat, and veggie and rice dishes. Try the Chef’s Choice Kushiyaki Set for a variety of meat and vegetable skewers and the Takoyaki fried octopus balls.
7. Kura Revolving Sushi Bar
Kura Revolving Sushi Bar is a Japanese chain with a variety of sushi that makes its way around the restaurant on a conveyor belt. This is a great way to try a bunch of different sushi that you may not have ordered at a regular sushi restaurant.
They also have touchscreen ordering where you can get a specific sushi roll delivered right to your table without having to wait for the conveyor belt. You can also order Japanese dishes like ramen and udon to be delivered as well as desserts.
8. Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs
Baldinos Giant Jersey Subs is a long-running Georgia chain that serves up exactly what their name implies – giant Jersey-style sub sandwiches. Their delicious menu consists of hot and cold sandwiches, deli sides, salad plates, and sweets.
Their sandwiches are served on mouthwatering, freshly baked rolls. If there’s not enough meat on your sub, you can go for the BIG Ones with extra everything. Check out their daily specials, which change monthly, for great deals on different sandwiches every day.
9. Woo Nam Jeong Stone Bowl House
Woo Nam Jeong Stone Bowl House is located in Doraville at Seoul Plaza on Buford Highway. The restaurant was started in 2009 by Grandma Young Han, who owned a successful restaurant in Cincinnati before retiring to Atlanta. Once here, she decided to come out of retirement with another successful creation, Stone Bowl House, which was voted the best Korean restaurant in Atlanta exactly one year after opening.
Woo Nam Jeong Stone Bowl House serves traditional Korean fare. On the menu, you’ll find dishes like haemul pajeon (seafood scallion pancake), kalbi (barbecue beef short rib), and bibimbap served in a cast iron stone bowl.
10. El Rey del Taco
El Rey del Taco, located on Buford Highway, brings some of the best authentic tacos in Atlanta. Their name even means “the king of tacos”. This family-owned business has been making authentic Mexican food for the past 15 years.
The menu at El Rey del Taco has a variety of taco options, including pork butt, tongue, cow’s cheek, goat meek, and beef flank. They offer other Mexican food as well, like fajitas, seafood specialties, and quesadillas.
