10 Breathtaking Sunset Spots in Atlanta
Looking for an awe-inspiring place to watch the sunset in Atlanta? These breathtaking sunset spots in Atlanta won’t disappoint!
With its stunning skyline and natural landscapes, Atlanta has some of the best sunset spots. From rooftop views to sunset hikes, here are the top sunset spots in Atlanta to watch the sun go down.
Where to Watch the Sunset in Atlanta
1. Jackson Street Bridge
One of the most well-known spots for capturing Atlanta’s skyline is the Jackson Street Bridge. As the day draws to a close, the view from here is nothing short of magical.
Downtown Atlanta’s skyscrapers stand tall in the distance, perfectly silhouetted against the radiant sky.
This is a popular photography spot, so don’t be surprised if you run into other sunset chasers here!

2. Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain is a magnificent granite dome that provides unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding metro area. Hike up the mountain early, or take the Summit Skyride, to catch the sunset from the top.
The top of Stone Mountain is a breathtaking Atlanta sunset spot where you can see the skyline and watch the sun reflected in the mountain’s rock pools.
Be prepared to either take the Summit Skyride back down or to hike down the mountain in the dark after the sunset.
3. Arabia Mountain
Just east of Atlanta, Arabia Mountain is a hidden gem with an incredible sunset experience. This monadnock mountain has a unique landscape from its history as a quarry that adds to the beauty of a sunset hike.
At the top of the mountain, you can get incredible views with the setting sun reflecting in the pools of water in the mountain’s craters. The effect is other-worldly!
Bring along a flashlight so you can hike back down the mountain in the dark after the sunset.
4. Chattahoochee Nature Center
The Chattahoochee Nature Center knows its a top spot to watch the sunset in Atlanta, so they’ve made a whole summer event for it!
On the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from June through September, you can enjoy music, nature, and a glorious sunset during Sunset Sips at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell.
Bring along your own chair and a picnic dinner (outside food is allowed, but no outside alcoholic beverages). This is a rain-or-shine event, and they have a covered pavilion for shelter from the weather. You can buy craft brews from Monday Night Brewing as you enjoy this incredible sunset experience.
5. Atlanta’s Rooftop Bars
Atlanta has some incredible rooftop bars that are perfect for watching the sunset!
You’ll get to enjoy the best views of the city, craft cocktails, bar bites, and great company. Check out a few recommendations below, or click here for the full round-up:
- Rosé & Rye — Buckhead
- Aerial Kitchen & Bar — Midtown
- Spaceman — Buckhead
- SkyLounge — Downtown
- The Roof at Ponce City Market — Poncey-Highland

6. Piedmont Park
Piedmont Park is a favorite sunset spot for Atlanta locals, with its lush green spaces, serene lake, and iconic skyline views.
Set up for a picnic in the park near Lake Clara Meer where you can watch the sun set as the Midtown skyline is reflected in the waters.
Or enjoy dinner at Park Tavern where you can dine on the covered patio with the perfect sunset skyline views.
7. SkyView Atlanta
Take a ride on SkyView Atlanta for a unique perspective of Atlanta’s sunsets. This Ferris wheel in Downtown stands nearly 200 feet tall and offers panoramic views of the city that are particularly captivating during golden hour.
Climb aboard your private climate-controlled gondola and watch the cityscape unfold as you rise to the top.
This is the perfect romantic date night activity in Atlanta. Who doesn’t want to watch the sunset snuggled up with their favorite person?
8. Panola Mountain State Park
Panola Mountain State Park is home to a rare pristine monadnock, an isolated hill of bedrock that was left when everything else around it eroded away. This leaves a spectacular view for the sunset.
To access the granite mountain, you’ll need to reserve a ranger-led guided hike. The state park offers sunset mountain hikes throughout the year. The hike covers approximately 1.7 miles, with unparalleled sunset views at the summit.
Panola Mountain is similar to Stone Mountain, but it’s smaller and more untouched. It’s also part of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. If you’re unable to book a sunset hike at Panola Mountain, both Stone Mountain and Arabia Mountain offer excellent alternatives.
9. Atlanta Motor Speedway
The Atlanta Motor Speedway is a world-class NASCAR race track about 20 miles south of the city. An evening race is a thrilling way to watch the sunset.
A lot of other racetracks have the sun setting behind the grandstands, but the Atlanta Motor Speedway is unique in that the sun sets at the track. This is thanks to a reconfiguration in 1997 (this reconfiguration also made the track one of the fastest on the NASCAR circuit).
Be sure to bring along sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat because the position of the sun means it gets hot in the grandstands before the sunset. You’ll also want to bring along earplugs for the thunder of the race.
10. The Spa at The Whitley
If you want an indulgent sunset experience, then head to The Spa at The Whitley. This elegant hotel spa offers a haven of relaxation and tranquility, coupled with unparalleled sunset views of the city.
The entire 9th floor of the hotel is dedicated to the Spa, so you can enjoy a massage or facial and then take in the sunset in complete serenity from their lounge.
If you’re not staying at The Whitley, you can still visit the Spa. I recommend getting a Day Pass + Massage or Facial through ResortPass so you can have access to all the spa amenities, plus the indoor heated saline pool.
