10 Eco-Friendly Travel Products for Sustainable Travelers
It’s easy to be green when you travel when you come prepared with eco-friendly travel products! By traveling with reusable products, less plastic, and environmentally safe toiletries, you can take small steps to reducing your environmental footprint.
One of the easiest ways to travel more sustainably is to switch from using unsustainable products to sustainable products. These are the best eco-friendly travel products that will change the way you travel and help save the planet.
Top Sustainable Travel Products
1. Body Wash Bars
A lot of the world’s plastic waste comes from plastic packaging. So why not ditch the plastic body wash bottle and opt instead for a bar of body wash soap?
This body wash bar uses biodegradable ingredients and compostable packaging. They come in delicious scents, are completely plastic-free, vegan, plant-based, and totally compostable.
2. Solar Charger
The sun is a great source of energy, especially for charging smaller objects like your phone. Invest in a good solar-charged battery pack to sustainably charge your devices while you travel.
This solar-powered phone charger is portable, waterproof, and a great eco-friendly travel product. It’s perfect for hiking, camping, beach days, or anywhere that you’re out in the sun.
3. Silicone Straws
A little plastic straw can do a whole lot of damage to the environment. I’m sure most everybody has seen the heartbreaking video of a turtle with a plastic straw lodged in his nose. A simple switch to a reusable silicone straw can make a huge difference.
There are a lot of reusable straw options out there. I’ve tried metals straws but wasn’t a fan of them clanging against my teeth. I feel that silicone straws are the better option. These silicone straws are flexible and wide enough for milkshakes and smoothies. They also come with a carrying pouch for easy travel and cleaning brushes.
4. Reusable Water Bottle
Don’t contribute to the millions of plastic water bottles that are littering the landfills. Switch out to a refillable and reusable water bottle instead. You can easily refill a water bottle at the airport once you’re though security, and then you’ll never have to pay for an overpriced bottle of water again!
Invest in a high quality reusable water bottle and you’ll never want to go back. This water bottle is insulated to keep your drink cold for up to 12 hours, and it has a leek-proof lid. Fill it up on the go for road trips or before a flight to stay hydrated and waste-free.
5. Bamboo Toothbrush
Toothbrushes contain a lot of plastic. Make the simple switch to a bamboo toothbrush and you’ll eliminate a lot of plastic waste.
These biodegradable bamboo toothbrushes have handles made of sustainable and biodegradable material with BPA-free nylon bristles. Even the packaging is recyclable — no unnecessary plastic here!
6. Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Sunscreen can contain a bunch of chemicals that are extremely harmful to marine life. While you want to keep your skin safe, you also want to keep the environment safe. Switch from your usual sunscreen to a reef-safe sunscreen that will do less damage to our oceans.
This reef-safe sunscreen is also hypoallergenic and vegan. Their formula is free of oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens, which are the chemicals that damage marine life and can cause skin irritation.
7. Solid Shampoo
Just like a body wash bar, solid shampoo can help save tons of plastic packaging from heading to the landfill. You’re doing the planet a real solid with this one!
This solid shampoo bar is biodegradable, compostable, and is equivalent to 3 plastic bottles of shampoo. These shampoo bars come in various delicious scents and even have special formulas for dry and frizzy hair or for dandruff and itchy scalps.
8. Solid Conditioner
You’ve got your solid body wash and your solid shampoo, so now it’s time to switch to solid conditioner for the sustainable travel products trifecta!
This solid conditioner bar is the equivalent of 5 plastic bottles of liquid conditioner. The plant-based conditioner can even be used as a shaving bar or an in-shower moisturizer, saving you the need to pack any more products.
9. Reusable Make-up Remover Pads
Your regular make-up remover pads are made with non-biodegradable fibers that take ages to break down. That’s why you should switch to reusable make-up remover pads.
These organic reusable make-up remover pads are the perfect eco-friendly travel product. They are made of organic bamboo cotton and can be reused hundreds of times and are 100% biodegradable and compostable when it’s time to retire them. They also come with an organic cotton drawstring laundry bag and a handy storage container that’s perfect for travel.
10. Reusable Sanitary Products
Periods can wreak havoc on the environment with all the required disposable products. But you can eliminate tampons and pads and have a plastic-free period with reusable sanitary products.
This reusable menstrual cup offers eco-friendly protection with no harmful chemicals, plastics, or dyes that are bad for both your body and the environment. These are especially good eco-friendly travel products because then you don’t have to worry over figuring out confusing foreign sanitary products that you aren’t used to using!

Love this! I’m addicted to solid shampoos & conditioner for traveling, I’ll definitely try this one since I’d never heard of it before. Are you into organic deodorant? I’m obsessed with OhMyGaia Deodorant – it smells great and actually works, and it comes in a recyclable/reusable glass jar.
I hadn’t considered eco-friendly deodorant, but I’ll definitely have to look into it! Thanks for the tip!!
It is the little things that add up over time. My family tried out the Ethique solid bars for shampoo and conditioner last trip we went on to Cuba. We loved them. Easy to pack and move around with and eco friendly. A win all around. Love the list.
So true! And easy to pack is a huge bonus to lowering your carbon footprint!
I love this list! I really want to try the menstrual cup but I’m a little. My goal is to try one before this year ends so that I’ll be more eco-friendly next year.
That’s such a great goal! Good for you!
