The Candler Hotel Review

The Candler Hotel Atlanta, Curio Collection by Hilton opened as a hotel in 2019. The building was originally offices for Coca-Cola and the Central Bank & Trust, both owned by Asa Griggs Candler.

The 17-floor marble-clad building was the tallest building in the city when it was built. The exterior is all Amicalola marble from North Georgia. In the lobby, you’ll find two Tiffany glass windows, original chandeliers, original tile flooring, marble columns, original elevator hardware, and the original building directory still displaying the names of prominent businessmen from when the offices opened.

With its attention to detail and local history, 24-hour fitness center, on-site restaurant, and close proximity to Atlanta’s best attractions, The Candler Hotel is the perfect place to stay in Atlanta!

The Rooms

The Candler Hotel has 265 guestrooms with King beds and Queen beds and 1 bedroom suites.

We stayed in a 1 King Bed 1 Bedroom Suite with a City View. This 750-square-foot suite has a timeless elegance, with a small dining/work table, a sitting area with a pull-out sofa, a separate bedroom with a plush king bed, and a large bathroom with a soaking tub and separate walk-in shower.

The rooms have high ceilings and large windows. We had a great view down Peachtree Street from our sitting area windows. The curtains and throw pillows are decorated with a magnolia pattern and the color scheme of soft golds and greens lend itself to the wealth of this historic building.

The bathroom was spacious with two separate vanities both with plenty of counter space, a large soaking tub that fits two (it fit both of us tall people!), a large walk-in shower, and a separate water closet. The bath products smelled great, and they even provided bath salts for the tub. I really appreciated the dental kit they provided with a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash in case you left anything at home.

All rooms include flat-screen TVs, a mini-fridge, air conditioning, an espresso machine, Wi-Fi, and blackout curtains (that work well to my standards of liking complete and total darkness).

The Amenities

Fitness Center at The Candler Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia

The Candler Hotel has amenities like a 24-hour fitness center, free Wi-Fi, pet-friendly rooms, connecting rooms, and a fully smoke-free property.

They have valet parking for an additional fee. There is unfortunately no self-parking available.

By George

By George is the on-site dining option at The Candler Hotel. Named for the building’s original architects, George E. Murphy and George Stewart, the restaurant is the perfect complement to the historic hotel.

The menu features upscale dishes of Contemporary American cuisine with a fresh and seasonal flair. The restaurant is open for breakfast, weekend brunch, lunch, and dinner, and the bar is open in the evenings. Reservations are recommended.

We started our dinner at By George with the Miller’s Crossing cocktail to drink (a refreshing ginger and bourbon drink). For our mains, we had the Rigatoni Bolognese and the Grilled Skirt Steak. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Cake.

What I didn’t love

While we enjoyed our stay at The Candler Hotel Atlanta, there are a few potential drawbacks I wanted to mention.

The valet parking price can be quite steep. I wish there were an option for self-parking. The valet also seemed to be short-staffed on our stay: there was no one there when we arrived and the valet found us at check-in to take our keys, then in the morning there was again only one person running cars for all the guests checking out, so we had to wait a while.

The area has a significant homeless population, which is no fault of the hotel’s and is a larger issue being addressed by the city of Atlanta. But it’s still worth noting as a potential safety concern.

Good to Know

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Fully non-smoking
  • Valet parking
  • Right by Peachtree Center MARTA and Streetcar

My Experience at The Candler Hotel Atlanta

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at The Candler Hotel Atlanta!

I love the hotel’s dedication to preserving its architecture and history. From the moment we stepped into the marbled lobby and saw the historic elevators, I was in love. The design of the rooms lent itself to the timeless elegance of the hotel, and I appreciated the small touches of modern convenience they provided with the rooms.

The location and proximity to Atlanta’s downtown attractions are great. You’re within walking distance of the World of Coca-Cola (a must when staying at Asa Candler’s building), the Georgia Aquarium, the College Football Hall of Fame, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

We enjoyed taking a staycation at The Candler; it was a great spot for exploring Downtown Atlanta and having a romantic getaway.

Who Should Stay at The Candler Hotel Atlanta?

The Candler Hotel, Atlanta, Georgia

The Candler Hotel is the perfect stay for couples looking for a romantic getaway in Atlanta. The hotel’s elegance lends itself to a cozy romantic weekend.

The hotel is also great for business travelers, conference-goers, and those attending nearby events. With its location near the Georgia World Congress Center, the Atlanta Convention Center, and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, it’s an obvious choice if you want to be near whatever event may be going on in Downtown Atlanta!

This hotel is on the upscale side and it doesn’t have a lot of the “fun” amenities like a pool, so I wouldn’t recommend it for families traveling with young kids. This is definitely a hotel that appeals more to adults.

If you’re looking for a historic stay that really immerses you in Atlanta’s history, then you’ll love staying at The Candler Hotel.
