Cocktails at The View

Cocktails at The View is a free annual experience at Burritt on the Mountain‘s elevated overlook, The View. Every Wednesday during April through October from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., you can watch the sun go down over Huntsville from the best vantage point in the city.

There is lots of seating, a full-service cash bar, gourmet snack items for purchase, and one incredible view. In the event of rain, Cocktails on the View is held on the verandah of Baron Bluff.

You don’t have to make a reservation, and you don’t have to buy tickets in advance. So you and your friends can decide last minute to have a fun night out above the city.

The View

Burritt on the Mountain on Monte Sano is a historic mansion and living history museum with one of the best views in the city. That’s why the museum decided to create an overlook at the bluff’s edge for visitors to enjoy.

This 3,000 square foot overlook has a patio with plenty of seating, string lights, umbrellas, and a great view straight down Governors Drive. Downtown Huntsville is laid out to your right, and off in the distance to the left you can see the Saturn V rocket at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

There is additional seating set up on the tiered green space in front of the gazebo and on the verandah of Baron Bluff.

You get to enjoy the sky change brilliant colors as it dips below the horizon. Then you can watch as the city below comes alive with twinkling lights.

The Drinks

The full-service cash bar is located at the gazebo, with additional wine available at a table on the porch of Baron Bluff.

They offer a red, white, and rose wine, local and domestic canned beers, and cocktails made from juices and mixers available. All drinks were priced $7 and under.

The Food

Gourmet food items can be purchased at the table on the verandah. These are not meant to be full meals, but snacks and charcuterie-type items to compliment your cocktails.

The most popular item is a charcuterie package of meats, cheeses, olives, fruits, and crackers available for $22.

Final Thoughts: Cocktails at The View

Cocktails at The View is a great way to spend an evening with friends and family. I went with my parents, and we had an amazing time!

I would recommend arriving as early as possible. We arrived around 6 p.m. and were lucky to find a high-top table on the outskirts of the overlook patio where we could still get a great view.

It’s also worth mentioning that if you do snag one of the tables close to bluff on the overlook, once the best of the sunset begins, you’ll be crowded by people standing at the railing. While this may be fine with people coming and going, it seemed like more people stayed at the railing the entire time. This means you’ve not only lost your great view, but you’ll have butts in your face half the night.

With that in mind, the high-top tables seem like they offer the best option of seating and a view! And then you can head to the railing for a few quick selfies before returning to your table to enjoy each other’s company.
