12 Best Atlanta Ghost Tours for Scares All Year Long

From the haunted theaters of Midtown to the blood-soaked battlegrounds of the suburbs, there are plenty of ghost tours in Atlanta to send chills down your spine.

Y’all know I’m always in the mood for a ghost tour! I also have a yearly tradition of trying out ghost tours all around metro-Atlanta, so it was about time I put together this list.

These top Atlanta ghost tours take you on a chilling adventure to some of the city’s most haunted spots, including a boat ride across Georgia’s most haunted lake.

Top Atlanta Ghost Tours

1. The Burning & the Bound: Grievous Ghost Tour of Atlanta

Night skyline featuring illuminated high-rise buildings against a dark sky with trees and a parking area in the foregrounds, as seen from the Sky Terrace at Epicurean Atlanta Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia.

This Grievous Ghost Tour of Atlanta explores the heart of the city to see what spirts lurk in Midtown. This 1-hour walking tour will show you a new side of Midtown’s popular restaurants, bars, historical churches, and theaters as you wander the streets after dark.

What I like about this tour is that is blends history and spooky tales with a little bit of humor, so you get chills one minute and laughter the next. It’s a great blend of creepy sites and fascinating history.

This tour is offered year-round.

Book titled "What's With Atlanta?" by Paige Watts on a marble table. Surrounding it are a notebook, pen, and tulips.

2. Ghosts of Marietta

The old Kennesaw House that now houses the Marietta Museum of History in Marietta, Georgia, a brick building with "Marietta Museum" and "Kennesaw House" in large white letters and warm string lights adorning the roofline, set against a dark night sky.

Ghosts of Marietta takes you around historic Downtown Marietta, a city that was a major site during the Civil War, to explore its bloodied past. You can choose from a haunted walking tour, a haunted trolley tour, a paranormal investigation of the Marietta History Center, or a haunted pub crawl to explore some of Marietta’s spookiest sites.

I went with the classic Haunted Walking Tour, and it’s a great way to learn about the history of Marietta Square.

Their walking tours are offered year-round, with other tours offered seasonally.

3. Roswell Ghost Tour

Bulloch Hall in Roswell, Georgia, a white two-story house with columns illuminated at night, surrounded by trees. The house centered against a dark background.

The Roswell Ghost Tour is one of the metro area’s most popular ghost tours. Head north to the city of Roswell, which saw its share of bloody battles during the Civil War. On the tour, you get to explore Downtown Roswell’s haunted houses, restaurants, and cemeteries.

This is one of my favorite Atlanta-area ghost tours because it has a great eerie ambiance. The tour, led by a professional paranormal investigator, sticks to the darkened side streets, so your tour group is often the only ones around (besides the ghosts).

This tour is offered year-round.

4. Decatur Ghost Tour

Old DeKalb County Courthouse in Decatur, Georgia at night, illuminated warmly and featuring grand columns, arched windows, and a clock above. It is surrounded by trees with a flagpole in front.

The Decatur Ghost Tour is a psychic-led tour of one of Atlanta’s most haunted areas, giving you a unique perspective on its ghostly residents. During this tour, Boo Newell takes you to Decatur’s most haunted spots, from the old courthouse to the darkened cemetery, and she’ll introduce you to the spirits she can “see” at every stop.

I like this tour, but I can see how Boo’s “sight” might not be everyone’s cup of tea. I’m the sceptic who never feels the cold spot or sees the orbs, but Boo’s tour didn’t feel hokey to me. It’s definitely different than all the other Atlanta ghost tours.

This tour is offered year-round.

5. Fox Theatre Ghost Tour

Interior view of The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia with ornate hanging lanterns and an illuminated ceiling painted to resemble a night sky with clouds and twinkling stars. Rows of empty seats stretch across the auditorium, with warm golden lighting highlighting the balconies and architectural details.

Explore the darkened Fox Theatre after hours on the Fox Theatre Ghost Tour and hear from the ghosts themselves who haunt the theater. This theatrical ghost tour is like a play that takes place throughout the entire theater, even backstage rooms you’ve never seen before.

Visit the hospital room (yes, the theatre really had its own hospital in the 1920s), ride in a haunted elevator, and go backstage to the dressing rooms on this popular tour. I loved this tour for all of its backstage haunts and letting you see all the secret nooks and crannies. Tickets sell out fast, so be sure to book ahead!

This tour is offered seasonally.

6. A Tour of Southern Ghosts

A silhouette of a house at night, illuminated by warm, glowing windows during A Tour of Southern Ghosts at Stone Mountain Park Historic Square in Stone Mountain, Georgia. A cloudy sky partially reveals a bright moon.

A Tour of Southern Ghosts is a bit different than other Atlanta ghost tours. This annual storytelling festival is presented by ART Station and it focuses on ghost stories that are parables collected from across the South.

This family-friendly tour keeps the Southern tradition of storytelling alive as you stroll the moonlit paths of Stone Mountain Park’s Historic Square listening to a collection of spooky, silly, and heart-wrenching ghost stories from all over the South. So the stories aren’t Atlanta-specific, but it’s still a great piece of theater.

7. Capturing the Spirit of Oakland

A stone mausoleum at Historic Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia with a steep, pointed roof and decorative iron doors standing under a cloudy sky, surrounded by gravestones and trees.

Capturing the Spirit of Oakland is a popular ghost tour of Historic Oakland Cemetery where you can learn about the famous residents who are laid to rest here.

Costumed storytellers guide you by candlelight through the cemetery for a family-friendly moonlit stroll that’s designed to enlighten rather than frighten.

This tour is offered seasonally.

11. Legends and Lore at Rhodes Hall

Rhodes Hall in Atlanta, Georgia, an historic stone mansion with a tower, arched windows, and a turret, with an overcast sky and modern buildings in the background.

Explore Rhodes Hall after dark on the Legends and Lore at Rhodes Hall tour. Called the “Castle on Peachtree”, this imposing former home and current wedding venue has some spine-chilling ghosts.

Rhodes Hall is considered one of the most haunted buildings in Atlanta. See for yourself after dark on a Standard Tour of the home, or take the Hidden Spaces Tour for a look at the haunted Children’s Playroom and the basement level where most paranormal activity is reported.

This tour is offered seasonally.
